What to see in Gernika in a day

There are lots of ways to enjoy Gernika, but here are a couple of suggestions. ONDO PASA!

History of Gernika

Since time immemorial, Gernika has been and remains today a place of enormous symbolic significance for all Basques: it is a symbol of democracy and historical rights on the one hand, but on 26 April 1937, it was also the scene of one of the most brutal bombardments of the Spanish Civil War. That same year, Picasso immortalised the town the world over as a representation of bombings designed to unleash terror and, by extension, of the horrors of war. Today, Gernika has become a veritable icon against war and an emblem of peace.
