Get to know the real Gernika. All about its foundation, the bombing, Picasso’s painting and the Tree of Gernika.

Itinerary

• The Plaza de los Fueros, where we kick off by telling you all about the founding of Gernika and its economic development. 
• The reproduction of Picasso’s “Guernica”: here we discuss the bombing of Gernika during the Civil War and briefly explain the story behind the painting. 
• The Pasealeku air-raid shelter, where we’ll explain the ins and outs of these structures.
• The Casa de Juntas (Assembly House):
  • In days gone by, inhabitants of the so-called “Bocineros” or “Horn” mountains would blow on their horns to call the general assemblies and today that’s just what we’re going to do!   
  • We will also emulate the swearing-in of the Lehendakari, reading words spoken by the first Lehendakari, written on a parchment in four languages.
